Burlington foodies have something to look forward to in the dark days of winter as the restaurant community is getting ready to heat things up this winter. Once again, local restaurants will be participating in A Taste of Burlington, showcasing the best in local dining. Presented by Wine Country Ontario, twenty-four Burlington restaurants will be offering special three-course prix fixe meals from February 21 to March 13.

Taste of Burlington is one of many Prix Fixe dining events in the area, alongside area events such as the City of Toronto’s Winterlicious and Summerlicious events. A prix fixe dinner is based upon a pre-determined menu, which offer diners two or three selections per course. Taste of Burlington prix fixe menus are made up of three courses: appetizer, entree and dessert, along with coffee or tea.

The twenty-four local restaurants participating in this year’s Taste of Burlington range from casual and fine dining to intimate bistros, giving residents a wide variety of menus to choose from. Each restaurant will offer a three-course prix fixe menu for lunch and for dinner. Lunch menus will cost either $15.00 or $20.00 and dinner menus will range from $30.00 to $40.00.

Something for everyone

Taste of Burlington began in the summer of 2008 with twelve restaurants participating as an initiative of Tourism Burlington, Burlington Downtown and the Aldershot Business Community, with the intention of encouraging Burlington residents to get out and experience the high calibre of culinary talent available in their own community. Each subsequent Taste of Burlington has grown with more city restaurants participating and in  2009, two Taste of Burlington programs were offered for the first time; one in the winter and one in the summer. Each subsequent Taste of Burlington has seen an increase in participating restaurants with 26 restaurants participating in the Winter 2010 Taste of Burlington.

This winter’s participating restaurants include: The Alex, Alloro, Beaver & Bulldog, Eatalia, Elgin Terrace, Honey West, Jake’s Grill & Oyster House, La Costa Nuova, Latitude, Martini House, Paradiso, Pepperwood Bistro, Red Canoe Bistro, Rude Native, Santa Fe Southwestern Grill, SB Prime, Siam Dish, Sokratis Greek Cuisine, Spencers at the Waterfront, Stone House Restaurant, Water Street Cooker, Walker’s Fish Market and West Plains Bistro.

Not only will Taste of Burlington diners have the chance to sample some of Burlington’s best culinary creations, but they will also have the chance to win a seven day/ six night vacation getaway for two to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina courtesy of the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Porters Airlines and the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes along with a selection of secondary prizes including gift certificates to the participating restaurants.

Plans are in the works for a summer version of Taste of Burlington, to take place in July 2011.

The winter version of Taste of Burlington will begin Monday, February 21 and runs through to Sunday, March 13. Reservations are high recommended at participating restaurants. Information about A Taste of Burlington and the menus from all the participating restaurants are available on the event’s website www.tasteofburlington.ca.
