Do you have herb or vegetable seeds from your garden to share? Do you need organic or heirloom seeds for 2013? If so, you will want to come to the only community Seed Exchange happening in the Burlington/Oakville area on Tuesday February 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall at Burlington Central Library (2331 New Street).
This event also marks the opening of registration for anyone interested in a Burlington Central Park community garden plot to rent (only $50) for the 2013 season. Registration can also happen online beginning Tuesday February 19 at 10am at www.burlingtongreen.org until March 22. All the garden allotment plots will be available with selection based on a random lottery draw of all applications received. Those who applied in 2012 and were on the wait list will also be entered in the draw and need not re-apply.
All are welcome to attend this FREE event hosted by BurlingtonGreen’s Go Local Food Network and the Burlington Public Library, although supportive donations are always welcome. Seed donation is not required to come enjoy the speakers and check out the vendors and exhibitors. Local businesses are encouraged to contact program coordinator Michelle Bennett to find out how they can adopt a Victory Garden bed and support this unique community garden, resource network, and supportive 2013 Grow Learn & Eat Healthy public workshop series.
Featured guest speakers include Karen Walsh a Halton Master Gardener about starting seeds and succession sowing; and Andrew Roy of Green Gardeners Group who will speak about Edible Landscape Design Planning and Companion Planting.
Confirmed Vendors and Exhibitors so far include: Tree and Twig Heirloom Vegetable Farm, William Dam Seeds, Cathy’s Composters & Sprouts, Royal Botanical Gardens, Days to Harvest, Soiled and Seeded Magazine, BurlingtonGreen, Seeds of Diversity, Local Food Guild, Lexicon of SustainAbility and Halton Food Swap.
Where: Burlington Central Library - 2331 New Street, Burlington, Ontario, Canada
