The Burlington Bayhawks U14 Boys team under head coach Aleks Balta won the 2013 Ontario Indoor Cup on the weekend! The boys played in the preliminary round of the Ontario Indoor Cup back on January 2nd, winning their group with a record of 2 wins and a draw. The Bayhawks then proceeded to the final round on January 26th where they once again topped their group with another 2 win, 1 draw record and secured a place in the playoffs. In the semi -finals, the Bayhawks played against the Islington Rangers, a very strong side with very technical players. Both sides created many chances but neither side could find the back of the net. With 10 minutes to go, the Burlington boys final broke the deadlock with a lovely low driven shot into the Rangers' net to give the Bayhawks the lead. The Rangers pushed for an equalizer, but through great defending and goalkeeping, the Burlington Bayhawks secured a 1-0 win and booked a place in the Finals! In the Cup final, the Bayhawks played against the North London 99 Elite, a team which they had already beaten previously in the group stage. The London club, a very big and fast team, was looking to avenge their earlier defeat to the Bayhawks. But it was the excellent counter attacking play by the Bayhawks that saw them score 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. The boys held a 2-0 lead into the second half where the North London club stepped up the pressure. However, with some very disciplined defending, the Burlington boys were able to hold off the Elite until the very last minute when they managed to squeeze one into the Burlington net. But it was too late as the Burlington Bayhawks U14 Boys held on to their 2-1 lead and brought home the 2013 Ontario Indoor Cup! Congratulations to all players and staff on a very successful tournament, and being the club's first boys team to win the Ontario Indoor Cup! For more details of the 2013 Ontario Indoor Cup tournament, please click here
